Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process conducted by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that evaluates an individual’s existing skills, knowledge, and experience against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

If you believe you have gained relevant competencies through employment, previous study, informal training, or workplace experience, you may be eligible to apply for RPL through an RTO. The RTO will assess your evidence in accordance with the applicable training package or accredited course requirements.

Where sufficient and valid evidence is provided, and competency is demonstrated to the satisfaction of the RTO, a qualification or Statement of Attainment may be issued without the need to complete formal classroom-based training for those specific units.

All assessment decisions are made independently by the RTO in accordance with regulatory standards. Certification is not automatic and is subject to the RTO’s formal assessment process.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment pathway conducted by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that may lead to the issuance of a nationally recognised qualification where competency is demonstrated.

RPL does not automatically result in a qualification. Eligibility depends on an independent assessment by the relevant RTO against the requirements of the applicable training package or accredited course.

For individuals seeking to formalise their existing skills, RPL may provide an alternative pathway that can reduce the need for repeating formal training, where sufficient evidence is provided and competency is established. Timeframes and costs vary depending on the qualification and the assessment requirements of the RTO.

A nationally recognised qualification may assist with:

Career progression

Meeting entry requirements for further study (subject to the admission policies of the relevant education provider)

Demonstrating formal competency in a particular industry

Certain qualifications in sectors such as Hospitality, Building, and Trades may correspond to occupations listed on Australian skilled occupation lists. However:

Inclusion of an occupation on any skilled occupation list is determined by the Australian Government.

Skilled migration eligibility is subject to separate legislative requirements, visa criteria, and assessment by the Department of Home Affairs or relevant assessing authorities.

Completion of a qualification does not guarantee migration outcomes, permanent residency, employment, or visa approval.

Applicants are solely responsible for verifying current migration requirements and should seek independent migration or legal advice where appropriate.

All assessment decisions and certification outcomes remain the sole responsibility of the Registered Training Organisation.

Fees vary depending on the qualification, the complexity of the assessment process, and the requirements of the relevant Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Total costs generally reflect a combination of:

  • RTO assessment fees
  • RTO certification and issuance fees
  • Administrative coordination and document preparation
  • Consultation services
  • Compliance review and evidence processing
  • Postage and handling (where applicable)

As each applicant’s circumstances and qualification pathway differ, pricing is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

The timeframe for a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment varies depending on the qualification and the individual circumstances of the applicant.

In many cases, the process may be completed within a few weeks. However, the duration is dependent on several factors, including:

  • The complexity and level of the qualification
  • The volume of units requiring assessment
  • The completeness and quality of evidence provided
  • The time taken by the applicant to gather and submit supporting documentation
  • The assessment timelines of the relevant Registered Training Organisation (RTO)

RPL is not an automatic or instant process. The RTO must review all submitted evidence and determine competency in accordance with regulatory standards.

Timeframes may vary from case to case. For a more accurate estimate based on your selected qualification and experience, please contact us directly.

The evidence required for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) depends on the qualification and units of competency being assessed by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Once you have selected the relevant qualification and modules, you will generally be required to provide evidence demonstrating your skills, knowledge, and practical experience in the relevant field.

This may include:

  • Photographic or video evidence demonstrating practical skills
  • Employment contracts or letters of employment
  • Payslips or payment summaries
  • Job cards, invoices, or project documentation
  • Customer testimonials or feedback
  • Reference letters from supervisors or employers
  • Licences or industry registrations (if applicable)
  • Any previous training certificates or transcripts

All evidence must be authentic, current, and directly relevant to the units being assessed. The RTO may request additional information, interviews, practical demonstrations, or competency conversations where required.

Please note that evidence requirements vary depending on the qualification and training package. The final determination of sufficient evidence rests solely with the RTO in accordance with regulatory standards.

Pendulum College Australia Pty Ltd provides administrative guidance and general support throughout the referral and application process.

Our student support team will conduct a preliminary eligibility review to determine whether you may be suitable to proceed with an RPL application through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This pre-assessment is indicative only and does not constitute an official competency decision.

Once referred, you may be assigned to a representative or assessor from the relevant RTO who will be responsible for assessment-related guidance. All training, assessment advice, and competency determinations are provided solely by the RTO.

Our team may assist you with:

  • Explaining general evidence requirements
  • Providing a pre-eligibility checklist
  • Guiding you through the enrolment documentation process
  • Assisting with the completion of administrative forms
  • Coordinating submission of required documents to the RTO

We do not assess evidence, determine competency, or guarantee assessment outcomes. All final decisions regarding sufficiency of evidence and qualification issuance are made independently by the RTO in accordance with applicable regulatory standards.

If you successfully complete the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment process and are deemed competent by the relevant Registered Training Organisation (RTO), the RTO may issue:

  • A nationally recognised Qualification, or
  • A Statement of Attainment (where partial completion applies),
  • Together with an official academic transcript.

All certification is issued solely by the RTO in accordance with the applicable training package and regulatory requirements.

A nationally recognised qualification is recognised across Australia within the Vocational Education and Training (VET) framework. However, separate licensing, employment, or regulatory requirements may apply depending on the industry and state or territory.

If the RTO identifies gaps between your current skills and the required competency standards, you may be required to complete additional training, assessment tasks, or gap training before a qualification can be issued. Certification is not automatic and is subject to successful completion of all assessment requirements.

Final decisions regarding competency, gap training, and issuance of certification remain entirely at the discretion of the RTO.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) itself is not a separate type of certificate. It is an assessment pathway conducted by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

If you are assessed as competent through the RPL process, the RTO may issue a nationally recognised Qualification or Statement of Attainment under the Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) framework. RTOs operate in accordance with the Standards for RTOs and are regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) or the relevant state regulator.

Upon issuance of a qualification, the RTO will report the outcome to your Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI is required in order to receive a nationally recognised qualification or Statement of Attainment in Australia, as it maintains an official online record of your VET training and achievements.

You are responsible for ensuring that the qualification suits your intended purpose. If you plan to use the qualification for university entry, licensing, migration, or employment purposes, you should contact the relevant university, licensing authority, insurance company, employer, or regulatory body in advance to confirm whether the qualification will be accepted for your specific circumstances.

All certification outcomes are subject to successful assessment and are issued solely at the discretion of the RTO.

Pendulum College Australia Pty Ltd does not have access to individual Unique Student Identifier (USI) accounts or student USI portals.

It is the sole responsibility of the student to:

  • Maintain access to their own USI account;
  • Ensure that their personal details are accurate and up to date; and
  • Periodically review their USI transcript to confirm that qualifications or Statements of Attainment have been correctly recorded.

Students are encouraged to check their USI record at least annually, or after receiving notification that a qualification has been issued.

If a qualification or Statement of Attainment does not appear on the USI transcript, the student must contact the issuing Registered Training Organisation (RTO) directly to request clarification or rectification.

Pendulum College Australia Pty Ltd is not responsible for reporting outcomes to the USI Registry, updating USI records, or liaising with RTOs on behalf of students regarding USI transcript matters unless expressly agreed in writing.

Pendulum College Australia Pty Ltd conducts reasonable due diligence at the time of referral to confirm that the relevant Registered Training Organisation (RTO) is listed as registered on the official training.gov.au website on the date the application is lodged.

Our responsibility is strictly limited to confirming the RTO’s registration status at that time.

If, at any time after the date of application or referral, the RTO:

  • Is cancelled or deregistered by the regulator;
  • Becomes insolvent or enters liquidation;
  • Ceases trading for any reason;
  • Is subject to regulatory sanctions; or
  • Is otherwise unable to continue operating,

such events are entirely outside the control of Pendulum College Australia Pty Ltd.

Pendulum College Australia Pty Ltd accepts no liability whatsoever for any loss, damage, delay, regulatory action, or outcome arising from the subsequent status, conduct, or operation of the RTO.

In such circumstances:

  • No refunds or compensation will be payable by Pendulum College Australia Pty Ltd in relation to services already provided.
  • Any claims, disputes, or recovery actions must be directed solely to the RTO, its administrators, liquidators, insurers, or relevant legal representatives.

Pendulum College Australia Pty Ltd is not a guarantor of the RTO’s ongoing registration, financial viability, regulatory compliance, or future operations.
